A Classic Lake District Camping Adventure: 3 Days of Fells, Lakes, and Local Charm

There's something timeless about a few days spent under canvas in the Lake District. This past weekend, we packed up the car and headed north for a three-day escape filled with scenic walks, tranquil waters, and hearty pub meals.

🏕️ Day 1: Setting Up Camp and Exploring Orrest Head

We began our journey by pitching our tent at Castlerigg Farm Campsite, just outside Keswick. The site offers panoramic views of the surrounding fells and is a perfect base for exploring the area.

Afternoon set up: Use your rucksack to take out the stove and tea leaves, cook water and make tea while assembling the tent, experience the English ‘camping afternoon tea’.

After that, we took a leisurely walk up Orrest Head. This short climb rewards you with stunning vistas over Windermere and is a great way to stretch your legs after setting up camp.

🌲 Day 2: Grasmere Delights and Coniston Waters

After a restful night, we drove to Grasmere, a charming village known for its connections to William Wordsworth and its famous gingerbread. A visit to the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop is a must.

Post-lunch, we headed to Coniston Water on the lake for some time. Whether you're into paddleboarding or simply relaxing by the shore, Coniston offers a serene setting.

We wrapped up the day with a hearty meal at a local pub, enjoying classic dishes and the warm ambiance.

🌊 Day 3: Ullswater Cruise and Aira Force

Our final day took us to Ullswater, where we boarded a steamer for a scenic cruise, available from 20-120 minutes. The lake's beauty is captivating, and the journey offers unique perspectives of the surrounding landscape.

We disembarked near Aira Force and took a walk to the waterfall. The path is well-maintained, and the falls are a sight to behold, especially after recent rains.

🎒 Gear Spotlight: MARK RYDEN MR9031Y Backpack

Throughout our trip, the MARK RYDEN MR9031Y backpack proved to be an invaluable companion. Here's why:

  • Spacious Design: With a 30L capacity, it comfortably held our essentials, from waterproofs to snacks.

  • Weather-Resistant: Made from durable Oxford material, it withstood the Lake District's unpredictable weather, keeping our belongings dry.

  • Organized Storage: Multiple compartments, including a padded laptop sleeve, ensured everything had its place.

  • Convenient Features: The external USB port allowed us to charge devices on the go, and the side pockets were perfect for water bottles and quick-access items.

For those seeking a reliable backpack that transitions seamlessly from daily use to outdoor adventures, the MR9031Y is a solid choice. One of the things I love most is his colour, camouflage black, which fits the vibe of our trip perfectly!
